The Basics: Calculating a yard
> If the area is square or rectangular measure the length in feet and width in feet as well as thickness in inches. Multiply the length by the width by thickness and divide by 12 then divide by 27. This will give you the total area. For aggregate add 1.3 for compaction
For Example:
A rectangular shaped area that is 12 feet long by 12 feet wide with 4 inches of concrete requires 1.77 yards.

If you are covering multiple areas or an area that is not square or rectangular. Break the area down into squares or rectangles and measure them separately then add them together.
